A must-read

From Dr. Walter Williams, one of my favorite columnists, in his column today: "Do we want socialized medicine?"

"There's a cure for our health care problems. That cure is not to demand more government but less government. I challenge anyone to identify a problem with health care in America that is not caused or aggravated by federal, state and local governments. And, I challenge anyone to show me people dying on the streets because they don't have health insurance."

Dr. Williams serves on the faculty of George Mason University as John M. Olin Distinguished Professor of Economics

I started a reply to this post the other day. My girlfriend's daughter was here and inquired about what I was writing about. She then said that she was a socialist which stopped my writing. She filled me in on the merits of the socialist system and how it helps people. She said that Canada's system was a great model and, the people who were stuck waiting for medical services up to 15 months were only those who lived in the remotest regions of the country. She was convinced that there is NO medical services for the poor in the USA.
All her arguements were based on emotion...numbers and factual data were being dismissed. When I asked her where she ever got the idea that socializing everything was the answer to our problems, she said her teacher taught it at Rossford high school. Nice little indoctrination program they have going on there!

Maggie,

I could of sworn that I had already replied to this.

Nevertheless, Mr. Williams was spot on. That man never ceases to amaze me with his ability to make issues so clear.

The thought of socailized medicine here in the United States would be quite dangerous. Like Canada, most of the doctors might leave to find greener pastures, which might leave some not so great doctors to treat us. Our founding fathers did not want a socialized anything for our country (which I believe Jamestown was in the very beginning). Most of the general public can get access to medical treatment without much trouble.
I agree with Mr. Williams take on the whole socialize medicine. And just in case someone may believe, I am not a doctor.

One must also consider, why do people send their kids from all over the planet to lean medicine here? Why do doctors from every country decide to practice here? Why do people worldwide come here for treatment? Where do 99% of all important medical breakthroughs in curing disease come from? What country has the most modern equipment? And, why do people from countries with socialized medicine choose to come here for treatment instead of waiting in their own countries? The answers are obvious, our system...even with it's flaws are better than any other on the planet. It's shamefull that the democrats would comprimise that for votes.
