Quote of the Day - how liberty dies

With all that is going on in Washington - a President who is applauded for doing an end-run around Congress, agencies that have no accountability to our elected representatives or even subject to judicial review, and the endless spending that our representatives have no willpower to stop - I thought this quote from Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith highly appropriate.

In case you've never seen the movie, the Galactic Senate decides to elevate the evil Sith Lord Chancellor Palpatine to the position of Emperor. Padme, a representative, is appalled and, as the members of the Senate all clap, says:

"So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause."

I can't help but wonder if we won't look back on this one day and recognize this as the beginning of the end of our "grand experiment" - though I hope not.

I can't remember whom it was that used that same quote to rip something that the Bush administration did, but it was a Democrat. Frankly at the time I thought that they were correct. Bush had overstepped his constitutional boundaries and was rightly being called out on it.

Now that same quote from Star Wars is even more appropriate and on point, but we only hear the deafening sound of silence from those same Democrat critics of Bush.

Wrong is wrong. Right is right. This one is waayyy wrong and against the law.
