Paul Ryan and the Perseids

I'm doing the happy dance over the selection of Rep. Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney's vice presidential running mate. He's a fiscal hawk, a Constitutionalist, a good communicator, not afraid to take on the opposition, and personable.

And some think he's sexy - which never hurts.

And what, you might be wondering, does this have to do with the Perseid Meteor Showers?

Well, as SpaceWeather.com reports:

Earth is entering a stream of debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle, source of the annual Perseid meteor shower. Worldwide observers are now reporting more than 30 Perseids per hour, a number that could triple during the weekend when Earth reaches the heart of the debris zone. Forecasters recommend looking during the dark hours before dawn, especially Sunday morning, August 12th, when activity is expected to be highest. Visit http://spaceweather.com for sky maps, observing tips, and links to a live meteor radar.

Even the heavens are celebrating at his selection.

Not really, but it was a good excuse to put the two events together. :)

Reason magazine was negative on him.

In any event, it's an interesting decision. Though the idea that it follows historical precedence is rather depressing to me. And I wonder why Ryan would do it.

Fiscal hawk?

Voted for the largest expansion of the welfare state since 1965, the Medicare Drug Act.
Voted for TARP.
Voted to raise the debt ceiling.
Voted for No Child Left Behind.
Never saw a military budget he didn't like, no matter how big.

I'm a conservative. Paul Ryan is no fiscal hawk. His budget plan uses unrealistic assumptions to balance the budget...in a lifetime other than his.

Hold your candidates to a higher standard. Hold their feet to the fire. Don't settle for differences around the margins. Quit buying into the propaganda. It's unbecoming of you.

The Economist had a positive write-up on him.
