Quote of the Day

As I see many of the Founders' Quote Daily from The Patriot Post, I cannot help but be struck by how far we've come from our founders' intent.

"It will be of little avail to the people, that the laws are made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood; if they be repealed or revised before they are promulgated, or undergo such incessant changes that no man, who knows what the law is to-day, can guess what it will be to-morrow."

-- Alexander Hamilton and James Madison (Federalist No. 62, 1788)

  1. Maggie,
    I'll see your quote, and raise you three:

    When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators. - PJ O'Rourke

    Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell

    There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with the power to endanger the public. – John Adams

  3. Maggie;

    See my post on Rep Wilson (D-6th OH). He is upset with the latest Patriot Act he signed, but clearly the man should have been upset then, not now. Is it possible he didn't read it?
