What you're doing with Toledopoliticians.com is quite a significant start - and think of how many have been motivated to be more involved with the TPS school board as a result.

Sometimes change occurs slowly - but it does occur. Interestingly, tonight we have a meeting with the Richfield Township Trustees, one of the townships that requested a delay in this vote. I'll let y'all know how that turns out, as I imagine the water agreement will certainly be discussed.Maggiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12677808307727487766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21829866.post-1159581303358758842006-09-29T21:55:00.000-04:002006-09-29T21:55:00.000-04:00Again the rest of Lucas County's other entities ge...Again the rest of Lucas County's other entities get to taste the backside of Toledo's heavy hand, meaning that Carty & Co. have sucessfully infected the rest of Lucas Co. with its malaise.

All Hail Carty. . .

Sucks, don't it?Hooda Thunkit (Dave Zawodny)https://www.blogger.com/profile/13176392380086227377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21829866.post-1159497045000643902006-09-28T22:30:00.000-04:002006-09-28T22:30:00.000-04:00You aren't the only one who feels like they are mi...You aren't the only one who feels like they are missing something. Some of the people I know who are aware of this who live in townships are pretty upset. I think they have a reason to be.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00606533906583651054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21829866.post-1159485953780444282006-09-28T19:25:00.000-04:002006-09-28T19:25:00.000-04:00Kate - the townships have three choices - accept t...Kate - the townships have three choices - accept the terms and get water, or join together and see if they can negotiate a deal with another supplier, or go without.

The problem with these choices is that the townships really don't have the fiscal wherewithall to finance such improvements. I don't know if they have the bonding ability that the county has. They also don't have the technical expertise, as they've relied upon the county for such assistance, per the ORC.

You are correct that the county cannot negotiate a different deal with anyone else for water to this particular area. The new agreement restricts the county to only Toledo water until 2024 (unless the agreement is mutually terminated).

As for what was gained? Some would say that the townships gained water - if they submit to the terms. And the cost of the water if they want it now will be what Toledo pays plus a 75% surcharge. The rest of the county has a 50% surcharge until 2014 when it goes up to 75%. So if they accept the terms, they'll be paying more than the other county customers...

"why do it?" That's my question, too...as I said in my post - I must be missing something...Maggiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12677808307727487766noreply@blogger.com
