Sorry to not have been very active on my blog - some family issues have taken precedence. If you've ever had a close friend or family member diagnosed with cancer, you can understand the need to set aside non-essential things for the priority of helping out in such circumstances.
I lost an uncle to inoperable brain cancer in the 1980s. I was still in school at the time and the treatment has changed so much since then - as I saw last year when I lost a very dear friend, again to inoperable brain cancer. Last week, our best friends called us with the bad news that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Even with today's technology and treatment options, we're expecting that significant help will be needed as she undergoes chemotherapy. So we'll be working out schedules for helping with meals, cleaning, errands and the holidays. I'm sure we all have friends who are more like family. In this case, our friends are the family we choose, so we'll gladly pitch in.
But that means I'll have less time than expected for posting. So I've decided to ask for your input for 2007. I'd like you to make your local predictions for events, activities, etc...in 2007. I'll save these and we'll review them - either at the end of the year or as they come true. I may even end up with a prize for the best/most accurate prediction.
I'll start with two of my own:
1) My friend will successfully undergo her treatment and become a cancer survivor.
2) As soon as legally possible, the commissioners will vote to increase the hotel/motel tax - but they will make the public go through a referendum process rather than submit it to a vote prior to implementation.
Your predictions? Have at it!

I predict that a still unstarted Southwyck project will be a big political axe grinding away on everyone's patience...
#2...although at times you will miss the political arena, you will be satisfied to laugh from the sidelines as Citizen Maggie!
#3 Maggie will turn down a chance to do a morning tv show that used to use the tagline "it's just not right"!
-sepp...thanks for participating, but I wasn't really looking for predictions about me. :)
However, I must wholeheartedly agree with #2! And you'd have to be offered a position before you can turn it down - don't think that will happen any time soon.
As for Southwyck, I always thought you had to own a property or have an agreement with the owner before you could 'develop' it. Still waiting for such with Southwyck....
I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Maggie, I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
I'm not a real prediction type person but I will hope that all of us have a much better 2007 than 2006 was.
thanks, Lisa...If there's anyone who can beat this, it's her - such a positive attitude!
And while you might not be comfortable with making a prediction, I'd bet any prediction you'd make would be right on!
Hi Maggie,
Sorry to hear about your friend too.
She will be in my prayers also.
Predictions:
The Marina Project will stall
The Southwick project will remain stalled for lack of the "borrowed" money and a myriad of other reasons.
Lucas Co. will be sued by certain Hotel/Motel parties for passing the 2% Hotel/Motel Tax.
The Arena Project will continue to languish.
The City of Toledo will face massive cuts before the budget is passed, with forced layoffs in Q3.
Mm. Gerkin and Wozniak will still be as clueless as our beloved mayor as to why things just aren't going their way.
On the positive side, people will start paying attention to politics and politicians and start asking serious questions.
Unfortunately, no one in office will find the time to read the charter or the ORC, which should be controlling and guiding their actions.
1. Carty will be forced to resign after he punches Joe McNamara in the face.
2. The crime rate will continue to rise.
3. During his trial for assaulting McNamara, Carty will punch the prosecutor in the face.
4. The economy will continue to decline.
5. After the judge orders Carty shackled for the remainder of his trial, Carty uses his chains as a weapon to choke his own attorney.
6. While Toledo continues to suffer, nobody will care because we'll be getting so much media attention because of our crazy mayor.
Somehow I posted as anonymous, although certain phrases I'm sure gave me away.
