Burning question
If there's as much popular support for withdrawing troops from Iraq as is claimed by the Democrats in Congress, why did it take so much pork to buy their votes?
I suspect the "moderate" democrats feel concern about their re-election - and figure enough money back home will help everyone forget the betrayal of the troops.
I don't think only "moderate" democrats are concerned about re-election. If the Dems wanted to, they could eliminate war spending from the Budget. Of course, the President would veto any such spending bill, but that would have effectively the same result - no money for war.
The truth is that the Democrats lied to the American people they thought they were representing by telling them that the war would be over if they got elected. Now that the Dems control Congress, the war goes on. Joe Biden has even admitted that the President controls the troops and that there would be no way to end the war b/c no democrat would pull funding for troops in the field.

Because it isn't about Iraq and never has been.
ReplyDeleteThis is about control (and reelection)...
