Back on the radio!

Yep - I'm going back to doing radio!

A couple of weeks ago, I announced that I was giving up my host duties for WSPD's Eye On Toledo radio show so that I could devote more attention to the business my husband and I have. Following that decision, WSPD asked if I would be able to do Eye On Toledo on a part-time basis and, after looking at the schedule, it appears that such an arrangement would work well for both me and WSPD.

So, starting today, I'll be co-hosting Eye On Toledo with Larry Bertok. I'll do the show Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Larry will be the host Thursdays and Fridays.

I do hope you'll continue to join us for lively discussion on the issues of the day!

A new job

Several years ago, my husband and I formed a company to provide consulting engineering services. Despite the lack of opportunity within the Toledo area, we found that many areas of the country are growing and expanding - and so did the business.

It is now to the point that it requires the full-time attention of both us. As a result, I have decided to leave my radio job as host of Eye On Toledo. I could do both jobs, but would not be able to do either of them well - and both of them deserve someone who gives them their full attention.

I am tremendously grateful to Brian Wilson and WSPD for giving me the opportunity, and for the advice and guidance which helped me do it well. I also appreciate the freedom to do as I wanted with the show, focusing on topics that interested me and allowing me to speak my mind even if it didn't quite agree with the other hosts.

All the people at WSPD and Clear Channel were great to work with - providing help, support and constructive criticism. This area is fortunate to have the voice they provide - and that's true even if you don't agree with the positions the talk shows take.

I have been asked to fill-in during vacations or other occasions and have agreed to do so when I can arrange my schedule accordingly. Right now, it looks like I'll be subbing for Fred LeFebvre when he goes on vacation around the Fourth of July time frame.

I will continue my column in the Toledo Free Press - and my blog, of course - as those can be done at any time, day or night.

I appreciate all who listened and participated in Eye On Toledo and I hope their participation will continue. Thank you!

As you'll notice, in the left-hand column, I've added a link to my WSPD Eye on Toledo web page. I'll be making regular posts there about show topics and my "thoughts" on various issues that come up in the 6-7 p.m. hour.

My new job in radio

After taking a well-deserved rest from politics, I've accepted a job that deals primarily with ... politics. Actually, my new position as host of WSPD's Eye on Toledo show (6-7 p.m. Mon-Fri) brings me full circle back to my college major.

I majored in communication at The University of Toledo, writing for the Collegian for four years. While I never did radio at school, I've been an ocassional guest host for Eye on Toledo over the last 10 months. As much as I enjoyed writing for the Collegian, I find that I relish the interaction with callers that a talk radio show provides.

My intent with the show is to provide information, education and interaction, but in an entertaining way ... focusing mainly on local news from Toledo and the surrounding area. When relevant, we'll also touch on state and national items of interest.

In case you're wondering, the reason an opening exists for Eye on Toledo is because my predecessor, Kevin Milliken, will be taking over the position of morning show news anchor. As Fred Lefebvre's morning show is the #1 rated morning talk show in Toledo, this is a nice assignment for Kevin and congrats are certainly in order.

I hope you'll tune in (1370 AM) or listen live via the Internet if you're outside the range of the station. And please call in - it is a 'talk' show, after all.

Additionally, The Toledo Free Press has asked me to do an op-ed column for them. My first column, which I will link to here, will be in the Oct. 27/28 weekend edition.

I will continue to blog, but I'm not sure how much my new responsibilities might impact the frequency of my posts. But between Eye on Toledo, the Free Press and my blog, you'll be able to find plenty of Thurber's Thoughts.

On the radio!

Yes, I'm going to be guest hosting on NewsTalk 1370 WSPD again (kindof getting the hang of that phrase - it's all about branding, you know - lol).

I'll be doing Eye on Toledo on Tuesday and Wednesday, the 11th and 12th. We'll be talking about - yes - politics and the primary elections and results.

I'll also be on the following week, Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 18-20.

Guest Hosting Eye on Toledo

As Kevin Milliken is on vacation this week, both Michael Miller, editor of the Toledo Free Press, and I will guest host WSPD 1370's Eye on Toledo Show from 6-7 p.m.

Michael will cover Monday and Wednesday and I'll cover Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

On Tuesday, I'll be talking about festival fees and cat license fees...you'll have to tune in to find out what they have in common.
