Quote of the day

"But ambitious encroachments of the federal government, on the authority of the State governments, would not excite the opposition of a single State, or of a few States only. They would be signals of general alarm... But what degree of madness could ever drive the federal government to such an extremity."

~James Madison (Federalist No. 46, 29 January 1788)

Maggie;

I posted this on Scott Pullin's site and my other weblog, Repeal the 17th Amendment, concerning the recent Immigration Bill:
First, this immigration bill clearly demonstrates that the oligarchs are unworthy of our trust. The terrifying problem behind every piece of legislation is the hidden measures unrelated to the bill itself. I would urge you and those that read this weblog to consider the repeal of the 17th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. We must restore the balance of power the founding fathers intended when they created our government and return the power of the States. This is no idealistic pipe dream or the ranting of some fanatic; this is necessity our country and state can ill afford to dismiss. Please take the time and look over this weblog. I have posted a number of journal articles that outline the history and consequences of the amendment along the right hand of the page.

This country bought into the movements sweeping Europe and we ended up with two devastating amendments, the 16th (National Income Tax) and the 17th (seizing the State’s representation in Federal Government through popular elections)at the start of the 20th century. Neither one of these amendments were ever considered by the founding father, and in actuality, they never saw for these or the growing democratization that has taken root in our country.

If we are going to regain any semblance of control of the national government we must return the rights of the states. But if we do not the national government will only continue to grow.

Eh, we have Alexander Hamilton to blame for leading us to the path of a federal Leviathan.
