Lucas County spending

The Buckeye Institute recently added a "spend-o-meter" which tracks state spending. For this fiscal year, the state will spend $822.97 each second.

Which made me wonder about Lucas County's spending. While it certainly isn't as large at the state's, it's not insignificant. Our general fund budget for 2006 is $139,063,266. This works out to:

  • $ 380,995.25 per day
  • $ 15,874.80 per hour
  • $ 264.58 per minute
  • $ 4.41 per second

And that's just the general fund. I didn't have the heart to add up all the other funds to get the total county spending. But I will if anyone wants that information.

Sometimes, ignorance is bliss....

Ignorance is dangerous.

It would be a good thing to know the total spending rate, just as it would what we're paying, all in one number.

And, yeah, I'm a masochist...

The union where I work at broke down the CEO's pay down to the minute last year. If this guy had to take a wizz while at work, he got paid over 450 dollars while doing it. God forbid he has to crap and walks in with a newspaper, we'll have to lay a few people off.

-sepp. Good thing to do...you may as well apply this to your union leader's salary as well.

The more information you have, the better decisions you're able to make!

But I gotta ask...if your CEO makes around $450 per minute, he's getting paid more than twice the county spending? Or did your union break that down to the typical 8-hour work day, while my numbers are based upon a 24-hour day?

hmmm....we have to make sure we're talking apples to apples.
