Mayor leaves his dog in hot car - again!

He did it again - and the very sad part is that the citizens are no longer outraged.

Mayor Carty Finkbeiner again left his dog, Scout, in his car, with the windows rolled up, for between two and three hours. He'd been caught doing this once before - in a handicapped parking spot - and, after the Humane Society investigated, he got a slap on the wrist and did a public service announcement. He left Scout in a running car with the air conditioning on during a "Green Event" at the Erie Street Market. But he got no ticket for a violation of the law which says you can't leave a car running like that.

And over the weekend, he left the dog in the hot car while at the Extreme Makeover house. You can listen to the interview with Becky and see the photographs of Scout that she took to document the event. Becky explained that the car was not running, the windows were all the way up, and Scout stayed in the car the entire time Carty was at the event, which was between two and three hours.

Where is the outrage? The previous times, people just shook their heads and said, 'it's just Carty being Carty.' But we all know that if one of us did those things, we'd suffer the consequences.

The reason he continues these types of activities is because he gets away with it.

And shame on all of us for letting him!

Make sure you read the first letter to the editor in today's on-line Blade. Peter Miller of Marin Drive hits the nail on the head when it comes to the Mayor's dog in government center.

He takes exception to the Blade editors 'excusing' the Mayor for flaunting the rules. Kudos to him when he says:

"If there is one indispensable principle of benign government, it is that anyone holding a position of public trust may never become larger than the law. To ignore it or excuse it is to encourage the lawbreaker and prepare the public to be subjugated and victimized by its government."
