I really like Czeck President Vaclav Klaus

From The Earth Times:

Czech President Vaclav Klaus said Tuesday he is ready to debate Al Gore about global warming, as he presented the English version of his latest book that argues environmentalism poses a threat to basic human freedoms. "I many times tried to talk to have a public exchange of views with him, and he's not too much willing to make such a conversation," Klaus said. "So I'm ready to do it."

Klaus was speaking a the National Press Building in Washington to present his new book, Blue Planet in Green Shackles - What Is Endangered: Climate or Freedom?, before meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney Wednesday.

"My answer is it is our freedom and, I might add, and our prosperity," he said.
...
Klaus, an economist, said he opposed the "climate alarmism" perpetuated by environmentalism trying to impose their ideals, comparing it to the decades of communist rule he experienced growing up in Soviet-dominated Czechoslovakia.

"Like their (communist) predecessors, they will be certain that they have the right to sacrifice man and his freedom to make their idea reality," he said.

"In the past, it was in the name of the Marxists or of the proletariat - this time, in the name of the planet," he added.

Klaus said a free market should be used to address environmental concerns and said he oppposed as unrealistic regulations or greenhouse gas capping systems designed to reduce the impact of climate change.

"It could be even true that we are now at a stage where mere facts, reason and truths are powerless in the face of the global warming propaganda," he said.

Klaus alleged that the global warming was being championed by scientists and other environmentalists whose careers and funding requires selling the public on global warming.

"It is in the hands of climatologists and other related scientists who are highly motivated to look in one direction only," Klaus said.

I like this guy. In the same respect, I too would like to debate Al Gore on Global Warming (oh that's right, the earth's been cooling the last few years, so we ought to call it climate change). He is extraordinarily on point by stating that this is nothing more than alarmism. In other words, people are freaking out over nothing. We have bigger concerns.

Anyway, I'm glad you're back on the air. You're a truly good person, and you are very smart and knowledgable. Your attention to detail is remarkable and very necessary. Keep up the good work. Everything is beautiful.

Maggie,

Vaclav Klaus is a wise man and he agrees with me, so he must be right :-)

Glad you came back to radio too!

Maggie,

Obviously President Klaus is nothign more than a politician, as bscientists tell us that global warming is no longer under debate. Al Gore has told us this as well, which is obviously why he is refusing the challenge from President Klaus.

(Sorry about the mess, but this comment appears to be dripping with sarcasm.)

What is wrong with people being "earth friendly" and wanting to cap poisons being put into our air?

Robin - there's nothing wrong with conserving our planet and resources. There is, however, something seriously wrong with people who want to spend tons of money and make everyone comply with THEIR idea of conservation, especially when their ideas are not based upon science and fact.

The whole 'global warming' issue being caused by man and man's activities is part of the alarmism. Climate change happens - absolutely. If it didn't, we wouldn't have glacial groves over on Kelly's Island.

But it isn't caused by man - it's part of the natural processes of a planet. Global warming has more to do with the cycles of the sun than it does with human activities.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying it's okay to pollute - but there is such a thing as a cost benefit analysis. What good does it do to spend billions to reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by a fraction of a percent? And will 'they' go so far as to say that humans shouldn't exhale? Carbon dioxide is, afterall, what we breathe out and what feeds plants.

I'm more in favor of realism than alarmism, facts over feelings and proof over speculation and 'computer models.'

And I like Klaus because he articulates this type of approach.

there is some great information on global warming on Hillsdale College's website, found in their publication Imprimis. Facts on the science, politics and economics of the global warming movement.
