Happy Fourth of July!

From The Patriot Post, Founders' Quote Daily:

"Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants
thereof
Lev. XXV, v. X"

Inscription on the Liberty Bell, from Leviticus 25:10

From my column in this week's Toledo Free Press:

Ronald J. Pestritto (Founding.com) wrote: “The American Founders built into the Constitution a number of mechanisms that would curb the power of government, making it difficult for government to violate the liberties and rights of citizens. As important as these improvements were over past governments, however, they were only ‘auxiliary precautions.' As Madison explained, ‘a dependence on the people is ... the primary control on the government.' The principal responsibility for keeping American government within the confines of the Constitution, and therefore protecting the liberty of the American people, belongs to the American people themselves.”

One of those Founding Fathers spoke to the very heart of this matter:

The will of the people is the only legitimate foundation of any government, and to protect its free expression should be our first object.

The Andersons - and other PRIVATE ventures - put on a great fireworks show last night. While the finale was a bit too bright (hot white light) it was, overall, a good show.

When govt. steps aside and lets private entities work, everything gets better.

Even though we spent an hour in a downtown parking garage trying to get out with the traffic; the people were civil and even showed some humor honking in unison and rythm for fun. We all made it home by midnight.

Happy B-Day USA. Give thanks to everyone who has helped us grow, soldiers, civil servants, and don't forget the private citizens who have invested in our past and future.

Unfortunately, "Whee The People" began voting with self-centered interests instead of national interests, and we are reaping the results of all those years of irresponsibility and ignorance. Our Judicial branch has repeatedly overstepped its bounds. The House and Senate members routinely vote based on their personally held opinions, rather than reflecting the 'voice' of their constituents. Our beloved American system is being destroyed by the very people who take an oath to uphold it. And we have only ourselves to blame.

It is time for Americans to look in the mirror and recognize that the enemy is Us. If we don't start voting with a national mindset and demand our representatives actually REPRESENT us, we will disappear just as ancient Rome.
