No, it's not a children's book, although that might make an interesting title for one...
We've been wondering if our neighbor was going to cut down this dead tree, but today we were very grateful it was still there, as it allowed us to see a bald eagle sitting on a branch. The interesting thing was watching the squirrel as it scampered around the branches to the side and above the eagle, who seemed to tolerate the chattering directed toward it.
I've never seen an eagle this close, so this was a special treat for me.

Only at the zoo for me....
So glad you had your camera with you.....
It's almost like a silhouette...with a splash of color.
Beautiful!
Thanx Maggie.
And the title is???
"Silhouette with a splash of color."
No Charge.... :)
Why didn't I think of that?
Dear Maggie
First, minks and now eagles in your neighborhood.
You are now forbidden to fertilize, trim or mow your lawn without an environmental impact study.
We'll be over soon.
Sincerely,
The US Dept. of the Interior

Bald Eagle? Did I say bald eagle???
No - it's a .... seagull - yeah, that's it ... a seagull
Correction: it is NOT a bald eagle, it's a domesticated turkey that got loose. It's been taken care of, though, I'm happy to report.
BTW - my neighbors have invited us over for turkey drumsticks.
(I can't believe I just wrote this...)
Seagull????? No kidding, I am a Navy Vet....and I know for a fact that there is no sea within 50 miles of pt.pl.....
I just might believe a WILD turkey...I don't know what domesticated means.....
Ya can tell it is Friday....Ha..
Not a 'sea' exactly, but a Maumee Bay.
Interesting piece of trivia...I think it was in the '80s that the Great Lakes were designated as an 'arm of the sea' for the purposes of qualifying a team from Chicago to compete in the America's Cup Races ... so I could make the argument that the Maumee Bay is an 'arm of the sea' ... therefore, a seagull.
Don't argue with me on a friday! LOL
:)
My most disappointing nature experience involved a bald eagle.
I was riding a local bike trail when I saw an eagle swooping down for a kill.
So I started hauling on my bicycle to see this eagle snatch up a kill only to see it swoop right down..... into a dumpster.
Nature's never been the same.
Maggie,
This is a picture that needs a quote. May I be so bold as to suggest one?
"Piper down I will, I mean we will be having lunch in a minute..."
Maggie: I had the great fortune of living in a place where Bald Eagles are common. It was not rare to see hundreds together on the Alaskan Coast.
It is a real treat to experience the feeling of pride and optimism yo get when they are nearby. Regardless of party affiliation or political outlook, they are inspiring.
Plus they are huge and the supreme bad-ass of the wild. If I were to be reincarnated - that's my pick.

Awesome Maggie! That's one of the great things about living out in B.F. Elmore... we have eagles! I've had the thrill of seeing 3 in one tree along the Portage River once and it seems like we see one flying over at least weekly now. Kind of spoils you. They're SUCH amazing creatures, it never gets old! Glad you got the close-up view! I wonder, though, if the eagle saw the squirrel and was thinking... "Mmmmmmm. a nutty flavored snack!!"
