Sears named 'Watchdog of the Treasury'

Congrats to State Rep. Barb Sears on being named "Watchdog of the Treasury"!!!

Here's the press release:

Sears Named “Watchdog of the Treasury”
Award honors fiscal discipline, responsible spending of tax dollars

COLUMBUS—State Representative Barbara Sears (R-Monclova Twp.) was today honored at the “Watchdog of the Treasury” award ceremony, hosted by the United Conservatives of Ohio. The award recognizes key legislators or policymakers who strive to restore responsible limited government, lower taxes, free enterprise and regulatory relief, and personal freedom.

“In order to get our economy moving and create needed jobs, it is important that Ohio is on strong fiscal standing,” Representative Sears said. “This award recognizes our work at balancing Ohio’s budget without raising taxes, as well as reducing government waste. I’m proud to receive it.”

The United Conservatives of Ohio supports the responsible spending of taxpayers’ dollars, the reduction of government waste, and a free-market system of competition among private sector firms.

I remember doing research once on the Watchdog of the Treasury/United Conservatives of Ohio group (long story short, I found a legislator whose lack of interest in an issue I brought up to save the state money did not merit him the award, so I went to report him) and...I found nothing. No group website, no one to contact, etc.

I found a website which suggested that it was a front for the Republican party, but that was that. Do you have any information on it?

Kadim - I really didn't give the group much thought because I've heard of the awards for years. But in checking, I found nothing - like you.

I did find this old post which is available through archive:

and it gives some details. I sent a note back to the person who sent out the press release to ask them for more details on the group. I'll let you know what I find.
